What Do Artificial Sweeteners Do to Your Body?
Artificial sweeteners, or sugar substitutes, as a replacement for regular sugar, will decrease your overall calorie intake but they often “trick” the body because the body doesn’t receive any sugar or calories. As a result, the body’s metabolism’s ability to respond and react to sweetness decreases which could lead to higher blood glucose and weight gain.
Artificial sweeteners also impact your body in other ways, such as: causing headaches, upset stomachs, cravings, and more. However, sugar substitutes are helpful to those who have diabetes and other health conditions that require a managed blood sugar level – but it does not mean that artificial sweeteners are “better” than eating sugar.
If you are looking for a better way to lower your sugar intake, then simply adding less sugar to your food and having more natural sources of sugar are great options. Watch the video below to learn more about artificial sweeteners!
